Teak chairs set the standard in outdoor living furniture. Since teak is malleable, it lends itself well to the curvatures and arches of captain's chairs, classic armchairs, banana chairs and outdoor rocking chairs. Teak wood is unique in that its internal oils never dry out. Thus, teak seating retains its flexibility and is naturally waterproof. Teak chairs do not warp or bow and give slightly beneath large weight loads. Rockers do not split. Joints do not shrink and loosen. In fact, teak patio furniture maintains its beauty and functionality for decades.

Newly-manufactured teak furniture is honey colored with slightly gold or reddish hues, depending upon its origin. Left untreated, teak ages to a beautiful silver-gray patina. Yearly teak-oil treatments can be applied to preserve its original coloring, but this step is purely cosmetic and not necessary for longevity. (If your teak furniture is used indoors, a single teak-oil treatment is all that is necessary).

Maintenance and care is simple. Teak tends to absorb dust and airborne pollutants. Yearly power-washing is recommended, (on the lowest possible setting), from a distance of 6 to 8 feet. Never force water against the grain. Water coursing with the grain is sufficient to pulsate dirt particles away from the internal structure of the wood.

Teak grain patterns vary according to the variety your furniture was milled from. There are currently thirteen varieties of commercially-grown teak. Since teak is a hard wood, the grains are tightly cropped. Patterns are most readily observed in aged woods that have developed a natural patina.
